Though Los Angeles is known for its warm daytime weather, the evenings in the city can be very chilly, barely breaking into the 70s, even in the summer. Nothing feels better after a long walk on one of the area’s beautiful beaches on a chilly summer evening, than a nice, warm shower or bath. However, nothing in the world feels worse than stepping into what you expect to be a nice, hot shower, only to be blasted with cold water, from head to toe.

Water heaters are usually well made appliances that rarely break down, but from time to time, you may need to call for gas hot water heater repair. Los Angeles residents, who find their heaters are not working, should first check a few simple things before making that call.

First, be sure that there are no gas leaks from the appliance. If you do smell a strong odor of gas, do not call for gas hot water heater repair. Los Angeles area gas suppliers should be called, in the case of a gas leak. Be sure not to do anything that could create a spark or light any open flames if a leak might be present.

If there is no leak, you should check the pilot light on the water heater, to be sure that it is lit. When the pilot light is out, no heating will occur. If this is the case, relight the pilot, by the instructions on the water heater. If the pilot light will not stay lit, you will need to call to have the system looked at.

If your water is not hot enough, check the thermostat on the system before calling for gas hot water heater repair. Los Angeles service techs make many service calls, only to find that the temperature setting had been lowered. While there are several, more complex problems that can cause this problem, this is an easy fix that saves time and money.
